Every GUDHOST plan includes a free SSL certificate, issued once your domain points to us: request it under Security & HTTPS on your site's page under Websites. Until then, visiting https:// on your domain can show a warning such as "Your connection is not private", or a certificate made out to a different name than your domain. This simply means the certificate for your domain hasn't been issued yet.
While you wait, your site is always available securely at the temporary address under Websites in your account.
What to check at your domain registrar
- Both A records exist: one for @ and one for www, each pointing to the IP address shown under Websites in your account.
- No old records point elsewhere. Remove any other A records for @ or www, and any AAAA records for @ or www, which send some visitors to your previous host.
- No leftover
_acme-challengerecords from a previous host's certificate setup. - If you use Cloudflare, set the @ and www records to DNS only (grey cloud). If you want to keep Cloudflare's proxy turned on, contact support first so we can set things up correctly.
After changing records, allow time for DNS to update: usually a few hours, and up to 72 hours.
Still seeing a warning?
Contact support with your domain name and we'll check your DNS and certificate for you. Let us know if you use Cloudflare or any other service in front of your site.
If the padlock works but the browser says "Not secure", that's a different issue: see "My site says Not secure even though it has SSL".
